APE Presents: Our Atlanta
Submissions are Closed - Thanks!
Atlanta Photography in partnership with Castleberry Point Lofts and Emerging Art Scene will present: “Our Atlanta - a Photography Exhibit” during the June 2009 Castleberry Hill Art Stroll. The call for artists is open NOW!
“Our Atlanta” will exhibit images of the city and the greater metro Atlanta area which define what this Grand Capital of the South is to those of us that live, work, and relax here. Send us your best, most defining images of Atlanta for display in the show. Images should be immediately recognizable as “Atlanta” - there are many opportunities to capture the distinctiveness of this city and region, take this opportunity to present your photographic spin on this southern city.
Each entry allows the artist to hang two photos side-by-side. We are requiring that artists submit the photos they wish to hang with their confirmation of entry. Photos will be reviewed for appropriateness to the theme as well as to ensure that a wide breadth of images of Atlanta are represented in the exhibit - you are not being critiqued, simply reviewed for content.
Registration and Next Steps:
1. Please email all of your contact info and selected pictures to submissions@atlphoto.org
2. Someone from the exhibit committee will contact you and help you through the rest of the process.
3. Once you have met all the requirements for the exhibit, you will be sent a link to pay for your spot.
If you have questions, please email us at info@atlantaphotography.org

Letter from CPACS
In our last Southern Fried Photographer’s exhibit, we worked with CPACS and Wonderoot on a program to exhibit student’s work. We received this letter today and wanted to share with everyone.
If you know of other organizations that APE could work with, we want to know about them. I think the CPACS exhibit was wonderful and want to do more as we move forward.

APE @ Inman Park Arts Festival
We’ve got it goin’ on!
Wow!
Tonight - Friday the 24th - we have the APE Southern Fried Photographers Exhibit Castleberry Hill Artstroll at two galleries: Bighouse Loft and Granite Room Gallery, both located at 211 Peters Street Atlanta in Atlanta, GA. If you’ve never been, we hope you come out and join us! Rumor is we throw the best parties during the art stroll, so wander off the path and come say hello. The exhibit opens at 7pm and will be open until 11pm. For more information see the official exhibit page.
Bonus: the SFP exhibit will also include 12 youth photographers from the Center of Pan Asian Community Services and Wonder Root.
Because that’s just not enough for one weekend, and because you might not be a Friday night on the town kind of person, we’ll also have a booth at the 38th Annual Inman Park Festival on Saturday and Sunday. A number of amazing talented photographers will have their work on display and for sale, you don’t want to miss us if you’re at the event. Seriously. Do. Not. Miss.
We hope to see you at one event or the other - but if we don’t, we have a lot more in store for you in 2009. Watch this space for breaking news, and/or follow us on twitter, join us on facebook or heck - come out to the monthly meetup! The next event is May 7 at Zaya in Inman Park. It’s fun for all ages!

Unit 2 Fitness - Kickboxing Tourney - Peer Learning
We have partnered with Unit 2 Fitness to offer a unique opportunity for 10 photographers on Sunday, April 5th Saturday, April 4th at 10am.
This opportunity is a two-fold experience: first, we are going to be doing promo/portrait photos of the fighters. This is a peer-to-peer learning exercise. Our models are going to be both male and female and we are going to practice shooting, trying different equipment and learning from each other techniques and tips on how to take photos of these athletes.
The second part of this experience is to provide each photographer the opportunity to shoot a live fight - ring side! You’ll have unrestricted access to shoot at one of the fight rings.
Space is limited, so if you are interested in joining in, don’t wait.
There is a small fee associated with this opportunity and all proceeds are going to fund an exhibit APE is hosting for the Center for Pan Asian Community Services and Wonder Root.
For more details on the kickboxing tournament, please visit the Unit 2 Fitness website.
Due to a schedule change, several of the participants that were signed up cannot attend. If you are interested in this event, please email us at info@atlantaphotography.org.

Volunteer Opportunity: Race for Ronald
Here at APE, we think it’s important to give back to the community by donating our photography resources to charities around Atlanta. Last year, we helped out Georgia Tech’s chapter of HEROs by taking photos of their annual festival for the kids.
This weekend, on Saturday, April 4th, Georgia Tech’s chapter of Alpha Delta Pi is sponsoring a 5k/10k/1 mi Fun Run/Walk to benefit Ronald McDonald House. There are 195 Ronald McDonald Houses in 16 countries, whose function is to provide comfort, care and “a home-away-from home” for the families of seriously ill children who are receiving treatment at nearby hospitals.
We are asking for just a few volunteers to come take photos of the event, which they can use for their marketing and fund raising throughout the next year. It helps them put together better marketing, while putting all the money where it belongs - at Ronald McDonald House - and it makes things more fun for everybody!
Details:
- Event: Race 4 Ronald - 5k/10k/1mi Fun Run/Walk
- Sponsored by: Alpha Delta Pi - Georgia Tech
- Time: Photographers should be there by 7:30am
- Location: Calloway Plaza next to Bobby Dodd Stadium (this is essentially the North end of GT’s football stadium)
- To Run or Walk: Register Here
- To Volunteer for Photography, Contact: community@atlantaphotography.org
As a side note, if you know of other deserving charities that could use help with photography or would like to contribute to our outreach programs by volunteering on a regular basis, please let us know!
